Jumanji: Epic Run is an endless runner game based on the movie, Jumanji: The Next Level. A new kind of runner with four epic, next-level game modes: charge forward and fight your enemies, run from animal stampedes, climb perilous cliffs and dive off massive waterfalls! It was downloaded over 50 million times around the world and was a massive success for all companies involved.
I was brought on early into the project as the core game design was struggling to find it’s footing. Working with external clients Sony and Crazy Labs daily, I quickly helped establish structure, mechanics, directed several in-game minigame modes, defined the project scope, and took hundreds of ideas from each party and condensed them into design documents.
During my usual design duties, I took time outside of hours to build prototype mockups. Our clients, not being game designers themselves but rather from TV and Film, would often have ideas, but struggled to visualize them in actionable game mechanics. These prototypes quickly became the base for all of the extra modes in the game, and helped our artists, programmers and producers agree on scope and direction.
